Here is a recipe for a smoothie I have been making recently. I have been loving making smoothies ever since I was gifted a Vitamix for my birthday in December. Because the Vitamix is a high power blender it is so simple to make a great tasting beverage with a smooth consistency. Another reason I love smoothies is because they provide another avenue to add in nutrients to your diet. It can be difficult to get the recommended amount of fruits, vegetables, and fiber in your diet daily and smoothies can be a great way to pack it in. However, its important to remember that smoothies aren't necessary. You can definitely get in all the nutrition you need from eating real whole foods. This is just another option that I have been incorporating lately. Also, there is something refreshing about having a cold drink in the morning, even in the winter time. This recipe is simple and extremely modifiable. Use this as a template for creating other delicious smoothies that you'll enjoy!
Berry Green Smoothie
Serves 1-2
You will need:
- 1 c. mixed berries
- 2 c. baby spinach
- 1 banana
- 1/2 c. oats
- 1/4 scoop of Vega Vanilla Protein and Greens
- 1 c. almond milk
- 1/2 c. water
- A blender
- chia Seeds (optional)
- coconut flakes (optional)
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
- Top with chia seeds and coconut flakes (optional)
- Enjoy!
Note:
- Place the berries in first because they will be the most difficult to blend
- This recipe is quite thick and hearty, mostly due to the almond milk, protein powder, and oats. If you are looking for a lighter and sweeter smoothie you can replace the almond milk with coconut water or plain water and/or remove the oats and protein powder. By doing this, you are still getting great fiber and nutrition from the berries, banana, and greens but the smoothie won't be as thick
